Since 2017/18, member of the ensemble at Theater Erfurt (Germany, Thuringia) she embodied so far ORPHEUS in Gluck's "Orpheus & Eurydice", STÉPHANO in Gounod's "Faust", HÄNSEL in Humperdinck's "Hänsel & Gretel", NERIS in Cherubini's "Medea", JUNO in Cavalli's "La Callisto“, 2. DAME in Mozart's "Zauberflöte" and CHERUBINO in „Le Nozze di Figaro“; the operetta-parts of VALENSIENNE in Lehar's "Die Lustige Witwe", RÖSSLWIRTIN JOSEPHA VOGELHUBER in Benatzky's „Im Weißen Rössl“ and PETERSILIE in Spoliansky’ operetta-revue“Es liegt in der Luft”, awarded with the "Operettenfrosch" by BR Klassik (Radio broadcast Station in Munich)
Furthermore, she gave her debut in the title role of Bizet's CARMEN at the Open-Air DomStufenFestspielen in Erfurt and sang numerous concerts with song as for example Brahms „Wesendonck-Lieder, op. 91“ or the world-premiere of„Wesendonck-Lieder“ by composer Mario Wiegand
During the Corona-pandemic, she appeared with reduced public in the Opera-Pasticcho „Drunter & Drüber“, and in streamed performances as RUGGIERO in „Alcinas Insel“ after Händel and as CHERUBINO in Mozarts "Le Nozze di Figaro". Furthermore, she performed Schumanns „Dichterliebe“ in a staged and new version by Christian Jost and sang Opera- and Operattengalas open air at the DomStufenFestspielen Erfurt.
In summer 2021 she will give her debut as FENENA in Verdis „Nabucco“ there, and commitments as INES in "Il Trovatore", PISANA in his "Il due Foscari" (including a CD recording) and Dvořáks "Requiem", all under the baton of Marcus Bosch, will bring her to the OH! Opernfestspiele Heidenheim.
Guest-commitments brought her as PAGGIO in Verdi`s „Rigoletto“ to the Bayrische Staatsoper München, as 2. DAME in Mozart`s "Zauberflöte" to the Theater Klagenfurt and the Landestheater Salzburg, where she also embodied BALKIS in Glucks "Die Pilger von Mekka". With this part, she also appeared at the 5th International Opera Festival Istanbul. SIEBEL in Gounod's "Faust" led her to the Opera Nationalâ Bucuresti, the title-part of SAVITRI in Holst's same named opera, and DEATH in Ch. Jost's "Death Knocks" to the Stadttheater Gießen, where she jumped in on a very short call under the baton of baroque-specialist Michael Hofstetter for Valer Sabadus as NERONE in Händels "Agrippina" eingesprungen war.
In addition, she performed in the Händel-parts of XERXES, RUGGIERO in "Alcina" and SESTO in "Giulio Cesare"; as WETTERHEX in Christian Auer's World-Premiere "Der Brandner Kaspar", and as FLORA in Verdi's "La Traviata“ at the Internatioal Opera Festival Gut Immling (Germany/Bavaria).
Next to the already mentioned parts, Julia Stein also studied ROMEO in Bellinis "I Cauleti & I Montecchi", CHARLOTTE in Massenets "Werther" DORABELLA in Mozarts "Cosí fan tutte" MERCEDES in Bizets "Carmen", and the Rossini-parts of ROSINA in "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" and ANGELIA in "La Cenerentola".
In Sommer 2016, Juliaa Stein was invited by Maestro Ph. Herreweghe to perform an Art-Song-Recital with works by Schumann at the Festival Estate / Accademia delle Crete Senesi in Asciano / Italy;
which was as successful as her staged concerts with the Internationale Opernwerkstatt at Tonhalle Zürich, the Old Casino Basel and the Paul Klee Zentrum Bern, in stage direction by Carlos Wagner and under the musical direction of Yannis Pouspourikas and Gerrit Prießnitz.
Her Concer-repertoire includes among others Bach's "Weihnachtsoratorium", Haydn's "Theresienmesse", Mozart's "Vesperae solemnes de confessore", "Krönungsmesse" and "c -Moll Messe", Rossini's "Stabat Mater" and C. Saint-Saëns "Oratorio de Noël", as well as songs by Johannes Brahms, Gustav Mahler, Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, Richard Strauss and Hugo Wolf.
She performed concerts among others with the Düsseldorfer Philharmonisches Orchester, the Münchner Symphonieorchester, the Orchestra of the State Opera Baku and the Georgian Symphony Orchestra.
Julia Stein had the please to collaborate with conductors such as Marco Armiliato, Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla, Michael Hofstetter, Joanna Mallwitz, Adrian Morar, Stefano Ranzani und Thomas Rösner; and stage-directors such as Federico Grazzini, Axel Köhler, Balas Kovalik, Waltraud Lehner, Andra Leupold, Carl Philip von Maldeghem, Guy Montavon, Arpad Schilling, Patrick Schlösser and Natascha Ursuliak.
Born in Oberhausen, Julia Stein first studied psychologie at the Universität von Bochum, before she took private with Helen Donath and later on with Camilla Ueberschaer.
During her semester aboard in psychologie at the Università degli Studie di Padova, she studied voice with Alida Ferrarini in Verona and with Robert Kettelson in Milano. Furthermore, she received important musical impulses from Prof. Josef Görgen at the Hochschule für Musik Köln.
Masterclasses with KS Brigitte Fassbaender, KS Vesselina Kasarova, Michelle Breedt and Dietrich Henschel completed her musical education.
